The development opportunity

An evidence-based view of why this format exists, where it sells, and what to develop. Product-line counts come from Ecosea's own market scan; market figures are from public sources, linked below.

Market rationaleWhy this format?

The format does the work the shopper no longer wants to do: no peeling, no marinade mixing, no cooking decision. That matters because value is shifting toward convenience-led shellfish - prepared, sauce and battered shellfish grew volume by around 10% in the latest 52 weeks, while only chilled shellfish grew and frozen/ambient slipped. A chilled, ready-to-eat garlic, chilli and coriander marinade sits exactly on that convenience-plus-flavour line, and shrimp already accounts for roughly a quarter of seafood eaten in the U.S.

Where it playsChannel and occasion

Primary: UK multiple-retail chilled shellfish, where warm water prawns are a top-five species by volume and chilled is the growth sector. Secondary: prepared/seafood-to-share fixtures and deli-adjacent chilled aisles that trade on restaurant-style flavour. Longer term: U.S. retail and foodservice, where shrimp's share of seafood consumption and heavy import reliance keep a marinated, ready-to-eat offer relevant without needing a new consumption occasion.

Product propositionWhat to differentiate?

Marinade integrity: herb-forward, visibly fresh coriander and a clean garlic/chilli profile rather than a uniform coating - freshness is the one thing a chilled ready-to-eat prawn can claim that a frozen breaded one cannot. Chilli positioning: name a clear heat level and a serving occasion (sharing platter, tacos, pasta) so the pack answers 'what do I do with this?'. Transparent sourcing and origin on front of pack, since shrimp supply is overwhelmingly imported and shoppers have no default trust signal.
